Learning More » Richards Attic

Richard Whaley is Learning More as he starts to write about GP 2013. I'm finding the same thing. I keep learning about things that are in the current product that I either didn't know about or haven't used much so I forgot that they were there.

I think the clear lesson is that if someone professes to know everything there is to know about Dynamics GP, don't walk away, run.

Use Word’s Master Document To Organize Dynamics GP 2010 Procedures Manual - Etelligent Solutions

Judy Hirst from Etelligent Solutions looks at how to Use Word’s Master Document To Organize Dynamics GP 2010 Procedures Manual.
In a related note, I was just thinking that I haven’t seen any “Company GAAP” manual lately. These are typically a listing of the accounting policies and treatment for a specific organization. Things like “Our general depreciation threshold is items over $1,000 for items with a useful life of more than 1 year and not held for sale or resale”.
I have clients articulate this to me but I haven’t seen a written document in at a client in some time.

GPUG Academy Training

I wrapped up a 4 hour training session on GP Administration Made Easy yesterday for GPUG Academy. The class was a lot of fun and we had some great questions and comments.

I noticed that one class participant had to step out several time and I was concerned that they had a work issue and weren’t getting what they needed out of the class. I was also worried that they would crush me on the survey. What can I say, I’m vain, but you knew that.

At the end, this participant came up to get their CPE form signed. They commented that the class was great and they learned so much that they stepped out to call the office and have them implement some of the things they learned.

I was blown away. Folks were walking out of the class to get their colleagues to implement things they were learning.

If you haven’t looked at GPUG Academy training dig into it. There are some great sessions and they are more than worth the cost.

GP2themax - Helping users get the 'max' from Dynamics GP: Why do you think your company's utilization of GP is not optimal?

Frank Hamelly digs into why users think their company's utilization of GP is not optimal.

I’ve had some thoughts on this before. I’m huge believer in ongoing training. Too often companies fail to train beyond implementation. On the flip side, a lack of training is is also used as a crutch by some people.

Ultimately, a person is responsible for their career and a ton of learning opportunities are available for people willing to put in a little work.

Dexterity training is coming to Fargo the week before the tech conference. There are days when I think that Dexterity training is like a unicorn. People say it exists but you’ve never seen it. Well now is your chance to see that Dex training does exist.
