Weekly Dynamic: Report Lists in V9

Have you ever scrolled through all report windows for a particular module looking for that special report that you know is there but you just can't find it? Something like Historical Stock Status which is under Activity instead of History.

Well in v9 you can now search for a report, including all the options you have set for various reports. Select Reports-Report List and a box will come up with all the reports in the system. You can limit this list to various modules, search for reports and sort the list on the different criteria. From the Actions menu you can create new report options, review the option selections for a particular report and even import/export reports.

Weekly Dynamic: Lists

This week I'm looking at a feature I haven't used a lot, Dynamics GP lists. Lists can be turned on using icons at the bottom of the Shortcuts bar or from the view menu (View->Financial Lists for example). Lists are weird hybrid, somewhere between Inquiries and SmartLists. Basically, lists are a way to see information with greater flexibility than Inquiry screens but less work than a Smartlist.

Some of the benefits of Lists are the ability to add or remove columns with the COLUMNS button on the upper right, fast searches, easy date selection and smooth transaction drill down. You can include or exclude historical transactions as well. Viewing a quick piece of info is faster than creating a smartlist and filtering the dates.

The downside of Lists is that once you have your info, you can only view it. There is no print option. They're not dumb lists, more like, "not as smart" Lists. I suspect there will be some roles that really benefit from Lists but alot of people will gravitate toward Inquiries or Smartlists instead.
