Killing the Podcast

Being good at something also means figuring out what you’re not good at. The podcasts have not developed as I hoped they would and they are extremely time consuming. It also feels like they are simply becoming repeats of the newsletter so I’m killing the podcast. I’m sorry to disappoint the 100 or so regular listeners but if you just need to hear my voice the phone number is on the blog.

New Podcast Episode - Reboot

The newest podcast episode went up yesterday afternoon. Convergence and Decisions 2010 just made it impossible to get one out for April and May. I’m still fiddling with the format. I’m trying a new format focused on GP related news, upcoming events, third party solution reviews and tips. Make sure that you check out the new format.

March Podcast is Up

The March DynamicAccounting.net podcast is up in the nick of time. A corrupt recording delayed it to the very end of the month here but it’s up. Make sure you check it out.

New Podcast on Dynamics GP Business Intelligence

The February DynamicAccounting.net podcast made it up right before the end of February. I was waiting until after the MVP Summit so I could add anything I learned there (and was allowed to share) in the podcast. February’s episode takes a look at Business Intelligence in Microsoft Dynamics GP along with some of the cool stuff coming.

Calling All Involuntary DBA's

Apparently it's podcast week here at DynamicAccounting.net. First we had Technet Radio on Tuesday with performance improvements in Analysis Services 2008. Then on Wednesday we had DotNetRocks looking at Reporting Services 2008. Let's go a head and wrap up the week with RunAsRadio, Paul Randall and Kim Tripp talking about the Involuntary DBA.

If you got dropped into the DBA role as part of a GP implementation this is a show for you. Kim and Paul are about as smart as you can get when it comes to SQL Server and the hosts, Richard Campbell and Greg Hughes are no slouches either.

If nothing else, you can't say that we didn't work to ease your commute this week.

Technet Radio -Performance Improvements SQL 2008 Analysis Services

Microsoft IT Operations Dashboard Show

For the BI junkies out there, the latest Technet Radio show takes a look at Microsoft's Operations Dashboard and how it's used to align technology and business goals around applications. I haven't listened to it yet but it's on my list for the next day or two.

While this may not be directly applicable to GP or Performance Point I suspect that many of the principles used will translate to other BI implementations. That's half the fun you know, taking something unrelated and seeing how it fits and can improve your world.

Rethinking the Podcast Direction

Given the amount of work that it takes to schedule, record and produce the GPRocks podcast, I'm thinking about taking it in a different direction. I'm considering trying a topical format instead of the current guest-based format. I'm still thinking about what track to take so suggestions are welcome.

More, Better, Engergized Accounting

I want you to get the most out of your accounting system. Period. I would love it if that system were Microsoft Dynamics GP but some of the Excel, SQL, FRx and BI stuff I do here translates across many systems.

In that spirit I point people to places like the Accounting Best Practices podcast where you can take those best practices and apply them to Dynamics GP or whatever inferior product you're using.

Today I want to point you to Energized Accounting, where Bill Kennedy is working to help you get the most out of your accounting system. I'm a sucker for process improvement and this site is terrific.

Ok, that's enough gushing, I've got an integration to write.

My apologies to Michael Johnson because this took way too long to finish on my part. The next episode of GPRocks is up.

Picking the Right Dynamics GP Consultant for You

My newest article is up at MSDynamicsWorld.com. In it, I take a look at some things that companies can do to find the right GP consultant for them.

Much of this advice stems from the GPRocks podcast with Curtis Beebe and lots of real world experience. Wander over and take a look.
