.Net Rocks Takes on SOX Compliance
For those users and developers who just can't get enough about SOX compliance, the .Net Rocks podcast is now taking on SOX compliance from a developers point of view. It's not GP specific but if you develop for GP you better understand the basics of SOX compliance.

Working Your SOX Off
SQL Server Central takes a look at Sarbanes-Oxley from a DBA's perspective in their Working Your SOX Off article. (Free registration required). There is some good solid advice in here. With this advice and a few third party pieces like FastPath's Audit Trail and Configurator software you can seriously smooth out the GP portion of your SOX compliance.
Not coincidentally, the next episode of the GP Rocks podcast is almost done and it's an interview with Andrew Snook of FastPath. Look for it here in a day or two.

Willowware Audit Trails
Willowware has released it's Audit Trails software for Dynamics GP starting at an incredibly low $599. I haven't demoed the software but it looks good, including a web based reporting interface with the source code. Additionally it use a client license so you can audit as many servers as you like with one client license. Like other auditing software it works at the SQL level and so it's not dependent on GP but could be used with Dynamics NAV, SL, AX, CRM and conceivably other products.
There is a trial download and once I get past all my year end stuff (and there's a lot of it) I'll demo it and add a review to our new Module Review section. In the mean time, check it out and you'll be able to add your review as well.
Clarification, Willowware is partnering with ApexSQL to offer their Audit Trails software to the GP community for $599.

GP is Having a Compliance Sale
Just in time for Audit Season, Microsoft is having a sale on compliance related modules for Dynamics GP.
Electronic Signatures and Audit Trails are 20% off. If you buy both you can also get Analytical Accounting, Field Level Security, Account Level Security, and Microsoft® Forecaster for $5,000.
Your partner can give you specifics. I can't point you to a website since the link I got from MS only takes you to the "ask for info" page and the discounts aren't listed on CustomerSource yet.
Speaking personally, we're looking at compliance products for GP. I've seen both the Audit Trails and Electronic Signatures products. My feeling is that they are both overpriced. Audit Trails in particular has several good 3rd party competitors that are considerably cheaper (Rockton, Fastpath) and they appear to have more functionality.
I would really argue that in today's world, the compliance stuff should be built in. Both Audit Trails and Electronic Signatures should have been part of a free enhancement pack. That would really add value to the annual maintenance fees.

Compliance and Dynamics GP Webcast
Microsoft has an upcoming webcast on August 8th covering Compliance and Dynamics GP. You can register here.
I'm registered and hoping to make it. It's a level 100 in MS lingo which means it may not delve deep enough for my needs but it's worth shot. The beauty of a webcast is that no one looks at you funny if you leave early.
