Here is the scenario. You are working in Dynamics GP and you pick a field with a date. You want to put in a really old date, maybe for the start of a reporting period or for the start of your time using GP, but you don't feel like keying it. You pick the date icon. You could use the arrow keys to keep scrolling back months or...
Click on the header that contains the month. You'll get a list of months for the current year and the arrows will now show years making it easy to go back.
Click on the header again (it now has the year in it) and you get a list of years. Click the header a third time you'll get a list of decades. Yes decades.
I do have a client with a land asset that is more than 100 years old, but that transaction didn't originate in GP. I think the only reason that decades are there is developer indulgence, but it's still fun to find.

Weekly Review: Remember User
The Remember User feature in Dynamics GP allows a user to retain their User
Name and Password on a workstation to avoid having to type it again. This can
cause heartburn for security administrators. As a reminder, there is a master
switch under System Preferences. (Administration > System > System
Preferences) that allows administrators to globally activate or deactivate this
feature.

Weekly Review: Increase the number of password tries
Weekly Dynamic: Increase the number of password tries
By default in Dynamics GP, if you type your password wrong 3 times GP closes.
This setting can be controlled in the Dex.ini file.
The setting is:
SQLNumLoginTries = number
The default is 3, setting this to –1 allows an unlimited number of tries. This doesn’t change any SQL based lockout parameters, it simply keeps GP from closing after 3 tries.

Microsoft's newest Feature of the Day: Named System Database Also the sample DB can be named something other than TWO to accomodate a sample DB per system DB. This is great for hosted environments but it could also be useful in other scenarios.

Should You Post in Summary or Detail Within Dynamics GP?
Sheldon from Etelligent asks Should You Post in Summary or Detail Within Dynamics GP?
I have some strong thoughts on this. Posting in summary makes matching the subledger to the GL incredibly cumbersome if you get out of balance. It makes it impossible to use tools like The Closer to assist with balancing. I have yet to see a scenario where the benefits of posting in summary outweigh the negatives for most accounts.

Weekly Review: Speed Date Entry with only the Day
Todd McDaniel reminded me of a little tip recently. In any date field in
Dynamics GP, simply enter the day and tab off. the system will fill in with the
month and year from the current system date in Dynamics GP. This is one of those
tips that is so simple that it's easy to forget that it's there.
