Weekly Dynamic: Microsoft Connect

Often we want features in the next release of Microsoft Dynamics GP or there’s an annoying bug that just hasn’t gotten fixed.. How do you make sure that the features and bug fixes that are important to you become important to Microsoft? The answer is MS Connect.

The MS team kept reminding me of how much they use Connect to determine the need and the passion around a feature or fix. So I’m committed this year to leveraging Connect myself and working to help others use Connect to get our needs in front of MS.

The beauty of Connect is that we can not only add new issues, but we can vote as a community on existing items.

It’s time to Connect.

MyGPSearch.com

At the GP Partner Connections conference a significant number of partners didn’t realize that Microsoft had opened up Dynamics GP Support for search engines.

MyGPSearch.com is a custom search engine around Dynamics GP sites and it had already rolled the GP Support site in. MyGPSearch.com searches more than 100 blog, forum and support sites including support.Microsoft.com.

I’m now talking to ISV’s about getting their support sites rolled in to ease the support burden. If you’re not using MyGPSearch.com now is the time to try it.

ERP Knowledge Base Articles made public - Microsoft Dynamics AX UK Blog

Yeah, you saw that headline right, I read AX blogs too. I need some humor in my life. In this case though, the Microsoft Dynamics AX UK Blog beat everyone to the punch. It seems that Microsoft has chosen to make all of the Dynamics ERP Knowledge Base Articles  public on http://support.microsoft.com.

This change will allow search engine indexing of Knowledge Base content making it easier for everyone. I’ve already added http://support.microsoft.com into the MyGPSearch custom engine for Dynamics GP. Now when you use MyGPSearch you’ll get blog results, newgroup results and official support answers.

I’m hoping this means that we can quit complaining about CustomerSource search features and move on to complaining about more important things…like why they don’t serve Diet Mountain Dew at Convergence.

Dynamics GP Support

Just as Janakiram M.P. posts that more and more GP support articles are escaping from behind the closed PartnerSource walls, Frank Hamelly rants about how unhappy he is with the new Partner Source Knowledge Base search.

There is a catch 22 here. Part of the value in a support plan is exclusive access to support articles. If they escape into the wild it diminishes the value but if users can’t find what they want behind the support wall, the value is diminished as well.
