The Dynamics GP Blogster: Microsoft Dynamics GP Excel Dashboards

Mariano has nice coverage of some work that the GP team is doing around Microsoft Dynamics GP Excel Dashboards. They need some additional feedback from you too. I'll have my own write on this later, so for now, read Mariano's piece.

The State of Self-Service Reporting - The Microsoft MVP Award Program Blog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

SQL Server MVP Paul Turley has an incredibly well written piece on The State of Self-Service Reporting.

All of these apply to Dynamics GP and at I.B.I.S. we've used all of them with various clients (well, except for maybe Power View on Excel. 2013 since that technically hasn't been released yet. I'm playing with it for my next GP book).

Seriously, you need to read this.

BI Focus 2011

If you have an interest in Business Intelligence with Dynamics GP or if you use FRx or Management Reporter you need to take a look at the BI FOCUS 2011 event from GPUG going on in Dallas in August.

This event is designed around getting the information you need out of Dynamics GP. There will be sessions on PowerPivot, FRx, Management Reporter, SSRS, Sharepoint and more.

Weekly Review: SQL Data Mining Add In.

Microsoft BI marches forward. The latest cool tool is also free. Microsoft has released its Data Mining Add In for SQL Server. While not necessarily GP specific it should work just fine against GP databases and cubes. I could spend a whole bunch of bits here telling you about it but why don't you just go here and see for your self how cool this is.

One caveat, this requires Office 2007 and SQL Server 2008 so some of you may not be ready for it yet.

Business Intelligence - Who Cares?

Martin at the eOne Dynamics GP and CRM blog looks at BI and  asks Business Intelligence - Who Cares?
I think the number of people interest in BI is higher than his 2% estimate. Based on the interest we’re seeing in Analysis Cubes and Excel Reports the key to BI seems to be accessibility and ease of use. I expect PowerPivot and Excel 2010 to make BI even more accessible over the next year.

OLAP PivotTable Extensions for Excel

In his Inside Microsoft Business Intelligence blog, Patrick Husting gives us a look at the OLAP PivotTable Extensions for Excel 2007. This add in extends the functionality of Pivot Tables by exposing PivotTable functionality that is not exposed in the Excel user interface. If you're analyzing Dynamics GP with business intelligence tools this add in is definitely worth a look.
