All three of my loyal readers realize that I'm a big fan of Steve Bragg's Accounting Best Practices podcast. Now that all the DBA's have left the room, I'm going to ask them to come back in because this is relevant to you too.
In Episode 53 of the Accounting Best Practices podcast, Steve takes a look at implementing best practices. The thing is, most of his examples are systems related and all of the advice is good, whether you're implementing a full system or just adding something like Safe Pay to GP.
So why do the DBA's in the room care? Well Steve's written over 30 accounting books. He's not an academic though, he's also a CPA and the CFO of a public company. This way, when your CFO wants to do something dumb, like throw the switch on Core Financials, Distribution and Manufacturing all at once on Christmas Eve, you'll have some heavy weight backup when you suggest a phased rollout alternative.
The podcast is short, under 10 minutes but the advice is right on. Send it to your CFO or Controller and let them know you were thinking about them.
