When I was a controller I always had someone else do the upgrade even though I was perfectly capable of doing it. My job was to be the controller, not the upgrader. Plus upgrades require time. Time to prep, time to test, time to upgrade, time I didn't have. Time I especially didn't have if something went wrong.
